When Will Your Medical License Expire? A Complete List of State Medical Licenses
If you want to become a doctor, you must pass through a rigorous procedure. The country has set specific requirements and qualifications that must be met by studying for a long time. These special requirements are designed because education is vital as the profession deals with the lives of people.
Besides studying for years to become a doctor, people also get certified as professionals to work in the field and save lives. This is also not the easiest process. This is why you must not forget about renewing it after the process of acquiring and working with the license.
The renewal is as important as the initial stage of receiving it. The requirements in each state of the US differ. If you have a license and feel that the time of the renewal is getting closer day by day, then you would better look at the requirements of each state separately.
Some states provide their residents with special renewal applications like in the case of the Alaska Medical License. If the state that has provided you with the document, has this application system, then your task will be facilitated multiple times.
This is because, through these applications, you can get your license renewed immediately. Though it is renewed right away, it can take 4 to 6 weeks to get it. So, as you can see it can be very easy and quick.
You would better do it on time to avoid the penalties that you may encounter in the case of delay. This may be difficult for those doctors who have received a number of licenses in different states and work there.
For this, take a look at the detailed information presented in the table below.

What if…
If it happened so that you have not managed to renew your license and have missed the deadline, there is no need to worry. It would just take some time from you and some money as a delay charge.
You would be required to present a document that will prove that you have passed a continuing medical education. Besides, you would have to deliver proof of insurance and your CV.
Depending on the state, you would have to pass a criminal background check. This is for the state board to assure that you do not use illegal substances or are not engaged in illegal activities.
You must also pass a medical check that will prove that you do not have any mental disorders. If you have been in the field for a very long time, a program of a physician or clinical skill assessment may be enough for the board to reinstate your expired license.
